Welcome to www.TheChristianWaytobeHappilyMarried.com, the ecumenical Catholic Christian marriage web site for Christian Starlight Press.Mission
The mission and purpose of Christian Starlight Press in this Catholic marriage web site is to explore and promote the Christian Way to be happily married by following Jesus with love, faith, wisdom, and other Christian virtues and gifts in a loving Christian marriage discipleship.
This virtuous Christian Way to be happily married is good not only for Catholics and other Christians, but also for non-Christians. It is good for all couples to love their partner and treat their partner well, with wisdom, patience, gratitude, and other Christian virtues. Non-Christians could follow Jesus in a limited way as a role model or moral teacher even if they did not believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
We Christian couples are called to follow Jesus not only by believing that he is the Son of God and trusting that he loves us, but also by turning away from our sins and amending our life. We turn away from our sins and amend our life in an authentic Biblical sense by becoming like Jesus in our moral character and conduct, with love, wisdom, and other Christian virtues. The apostle Paul urges the Ephesians to "imitate God" and "follow Christ by loving as he loved you" (Eph. 5:1-2). Paul calls us Christians to holiness.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) identifies the Catholic vocation of marriage as a Christian calling to holiness in their pastoral letter, Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan (2009). The bishops characterize holiness not only in the basic sense of couples experiencing the free gift of God's grace, but also in the deep sense of couples becoming increasingly loving, virtuous, Christ-like persons in their marriage and family life. The Catholic bishops call couples to follow Jesus with love, faith, hope, and other virtues in a loving Christian marriage discipleship. I call this a Catholic virtue approach to marriage as a Christian calling to holiness.
When we Christian couples follow Jesus with an increasingly Christ-like love and other Christian virtues, we bear witnesses to Jesus in our marriage and family life in the spirit of Pope John Paul II's New Evangelization. Then others in our family and in our community will know that we are Christians by our love. This website's Catholic virtue approach to marriage is a Catholic New-Evangelization approach also.
This website's Catholic virtue approach to marriage as a Christian calling to holiness is introduced, developed, and promoted in Dr. David Sanderlin's ecumenical Catholic marriage guide, The Christian Way to be Happily Married (2010). The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has selected this guide as the Book of the Month (December 2011) for their For Your Marriage website. Ralph Martin, President of Renewal Ministries, observes that David Sanderlin "has plumbed the depths of Christian spirituality and drawn from the best of the Catholic tradition to show how marriage is a profound call to holiness."
We Christian couples in our calling to holiness can grow in love and other Christian virtues gradually over the years at our own pace and God's pace during our ordinary marriage and family activities--and always with God's help! We can deal with money, housework, and other practical marriage and family matters with an increasingly Christ-like love, wisdom, patience, gratitude, and other Christian virtues.
And that's not all. Following Jesus with love and other Christian virtues is the Christian Way not only to holiness in marriage and family life, but also to happiness, that is, to an authentic Christian "happiness in the Lord" (James 4:4). This Christian happiness comes not only with Christian virtues, but also with the inner peace and joy of Christ. This virtuous, joyful Christian happiness is far more desirable and fulfilling than the secular, subjective, "feel-good" happiness that is promoted in today's "new science of happiness." The secular, "scientific" happiness often comes with an anxious and stressful pursuit of worldly goods. As a matter of fact, the anxious, stressful pursuit of today's secular, "feel-good" happiness is one of the greatest sources of unhappiness.
This Catholic marriage website and the Catholic marriage guide, The Christian Way to be Happily Married, are for engaged and married couples, Christians involved in marriage education and ministry, and any other Christians or non-Christians who are interested in the Christian Way to be happily married not only by using technical communication and relationship skills, but also, above all, by following Jesus with love, faith, wisdom, and other Christian virtues in a loving Christian marriage discipleship.
