Description of the book:
In this ecumenical Catholic Christian marriage guide for engaged and married couples, Dr. David Sanderlin draws from the teachings of Jesus, saints, and spiritual reformers to show how couples can be happily married not only by using conventional communication and relationship skills, but also, above all, by following Jesus with love, wisdom, faith, patience, gratitude, and other Christian virtues and gifts. This Christian Way to be happily married is good for non-Christians too. It is good for all couples to love their partner and treat their partner well, with love, wisdom, and other virtues.
The author draws from Jesus, Paul, Thomas Aquinas, John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Siena, John Wesley, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and other saints and spiritual reformers to show how couples can be happily married by following Jesus during their ordinary marriage and family activities in a loving Christian marriage discipleship. Couples can learn from this marriage guide:
*How to deal with money, housework, and other practical marriage and family matters with the love and wisdom of Jesus, saints, and spiritual reformers;
*How to grow from an emotional romantic love or a conventional needs love to a Christ-like transforming love;
*How to seek a profound Christian Happiness centered on God and virtue instead of a conventional happiness focused on worldly goods.
The Christian Way to be Happily Married, with over 350 endnotes, includes a "Christian Marriage Discipleship Check-Up" for couples and "Discussion Questions" for participants in church marriage workshops, Christian college classes on marriage and the family, and other groups dealing with Christian marriage, ethics, and spirituality.
Praise for The Christian Way to be Happily Married:
"Many treatments of Christian marriage are superficial. Not this book. Dr. David Sanderlin has plumbed the depths of Christian spirituality and drawn from the best of the Christian tradition to show how marriage is a profound call to holiness. Sanderlin shows how the call to discipleship and deep union with God can unfold in the heart of the marriage relationship. For couples wanting 'more', this is the book."

In The Christian Way to be Happily Married, David Sanderlin helps couples grow in a deeply human and profoundly spiritual love for their partner and for God, thereby integrating their marriage relationship with their relationship with God. This book is an excellent resource not only for couples, but also for pastors, counselors, teachers, and others involved in Christian marriage ministry and education."

"In this outstanding Christian marriage guide, David Sanderlin draws from Jesus, saints, and spiritual reformers to help couples follow Jesus in the profound Biblical sense of becoming increasingly loving, virtuous, Christ-like persons during their ordinary marriage and family activities. An excellent book!"
